Janmashtami 2023: This year, Krishna Janmashtami will be observed on September 6 and September 7.

The annual holy festival of Janmashtami is around the corner there is confusion about the exact date of the festival. The celebration, also known as Gokulashtami, Shrikrishna Jayanti, Krishnasthami, and Krishna Janmashtami, is held on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapad. This year, the holy festival will be observed on September 6 and 7.

The Ashtami Tithi will commence at 3:37 p.m. on September 6 and conclude at 4:14 p.m. on September 7. Rohini Nakshatra will begin at 9:20 a.m. on September 6 and will end at 10:25 a.m. on September 7. Although Janmashtami falls on September 6, the celebrations of Dahi Handi will take place on September 7.

One of the most important customs of this festival is the 24-hour fast, which is observed by a large number of devotees and ends with the midnight feast, or "bhog," offered to Lord Krishna.

  • Eat food like sabudana papad, khichdi and fresh or dried fruits will help keep the body energised for those keeping a fast
  • It is advisable to avoid food prepared with onions or garlic on this day
  • Don't have non-vegetarian food on Janmashtami as a majority of Hindu festivals are observed with the consumption of vegetarian food and fruits.
